Association of the German Confectionery Industry or Bundesverband der Deutschen Industrie or the BDSI represents the economic interests of predominantly medium-sized companies in the German confectionery industry.

Association of the German Confectionery Industry or Bundesverband der Deutschen Industrie or the BDSI represents the economic interests of predominantly medium-sized companies in the German confectionery industry. Membership is possible either as a pay scale company or a non-pay-scale company. Sector related companies or institutions may have a sponsor membership. BDSI’s member companies represent around 90% of sector sales. It is a trade association and employer’s association with over 200 member companies. The representative of the confectionery industry’s interests vis-à-vis politicians, public authorities at national and international level.

The BDSI works as a service provider, information broker and problem solver for its members.

The BDSI covers the following product groups:

  1. Chocolate products: The BDSI product group chocolate, chocolate products and cocoa represents the interests of both manufacturers and of various end consumer products and semi-finished cocoa products. They include dark chocolate, cocoa butter, chocolate flavour coating., etc. 
  2. Fine bakery wares:The BDSI group fine bakery wares cover industrial and predominantly medium-sized manufacturers of biscuits and cakes., etc. The range of manufactured products stretches from biscuits to gingerbread, wafers, stollen, cakes, sponges all the way through to rusks and crispbreads.  
  3. Boiled sweets and sugar confectionery:The BDSI group boiled sweets and sugar confectionery cover medium-sized manufacturers of sugar confectionery. The range of boiled sweets stretches from boiled sweets, jelly sweets, marzipan, coated sweets, liquorice products, foamed confectionery, nut brittle, candied fruits, all the way through to sherbets and drink powders, including sugar-free confectionery.
  4. Brand ice cream: The BDSI group brand ice cream covers the industrial manufacturers of branded ice cream products. In Germany, industrially produced ice cream covers 80% of the entire ice cream market. These products range from impulse ice cream to multipacks, family size packs and also the products of the gastronomy sector.
  5. Snack products: The BDSI group brand snack products cover the industrial manufacturers of salty snacks. Their product range is further divided into four sections: potato crisps & stacked crisps; salt-based, cheese-based and is dough pastries; peanuts and gourmet nuts including but mixes; extruded products 
  6. Chewing gum: The BDSI product group Chewing gum, covers the industrial manufacturing of chewing gum. 
  7. Raw pastes: The product group Raw pastes covers Industrial suppliers of both traditional and confectionery manufacturers at home and abroad as well as the food craft trades, especially confectioners and bakeries.

The largest share of industrially produced raw pastes covers marzipan and persipan pastes, nut nougat pastes, nougat creams and hazelnut pastes. It also includes various oilseed preparations, however. These cover chopped, planned and stick-like products, the majority of which are made of almonds, hazelnut kernels, apricot kernels, peanut kernels and cashew kernels.

Some member companies in the product group raw pastes also manufactures products from neighbouring fields, especially ice cream base materials, sugar confectionery, couverture, essences and other baking ingredients.
